An Interview With.... Joelle (Just Joelle1)

Hey guys!

So as you may have read in one of my previous posts I will post an interview with one of my favourite YouTubers

I also mentioned that they are all small YouTubers. This is because I prefer watching the smaller YouTubers, it makes me feel closer to them.

At the bottom of the post, I will provide a link to their channel where you can watch their videos, like them and subscribe!

This is Joelle's interview...

And this is Joelle :)

Here were the questions and the answers I was given :)

1) When did you start and why?
I started making videos my sophomore year since I thought I might be interested in film production. I just wanted to practice filming/ editing, and saw the HUGEEE community of beauty bloggers on YouTube that were about my age, so I figured it would be a simple place to start. I also saw the awesome friendships YouTubers made through this media platform and definitely wanted to see what it was like. However, of course my channel has evolved a lot since then, but it primarily started with an interest in content creation and community.

2) Where is the prettiest place you have been?
New Zealand is extremely beautiful and its natural beauty left me speechless when I visited on a family trip. However, growing up in San Francisco, the Sutro Baths ruins at Ocean Beach will also always leave me breathless.

3) Is there anything you have always wanted?
Definitely always wished I was one of the x-men (just not Rogue because she couldn't touch anyone). Or at least the ability to fly.

4) Who is your favourite band/singer? Why?
I don't think I have a singular favorite music artist because my taste depends so much on my mood, but I very consistently love Ed Sheeran and One Republic. I appreciate their generally wholesome lyrics and overall good musicality and production, but of course can't help but wish I had Beyonce's voice/ dance moves or Zendaya's steeze.

5) (This is a random one) What is your favourite Disney movie? Why?
Haha I actually love that you're asking me about Disney because it holds such a close place to my heart. I grew up LOVING Lion King and Mulan since those were classics and of course, as an Asian-American girl, seeing a strong, independent, Asian woman like Mulan in a Disney movie is extremely empowering. However, now there's also Big Hero 6 which helps encapsulate my sentiment as an Asian-American in the modern day, as well as the idea of forgiveness and showing compassion which I value extremely. It also makes me so happy that it's partially based in my hometown haha. (I actually have a video up on why I love it. Yup, I enjoy it that much)

6) Do you believe in the supernatural ( including mermaids, faeries, ghosts etc.)
I can't say I necessarily believe in mystical creatures like mermaids, but as a Christian I do actually believe that there are more things out there than what humans can naturally perceive like angels and such. I think it's naive to say that just because we can't always detect something means that it doesn't exist.

7) What would be your dream job?
I hope to go into the film/ entertainment industry after college. I don't know which part exactly (since so far I've enjoyed almost all of it), but I would LOVE to be a creative executive at Disney and help develop the stories that make it to the big screen and shape so many people's childhoods.

8) Who is your idol?
I don't think I have an idol actually. But I do really look up to a lot of artists like Keone and Mari Madrid, my favorite choreographers. They have found amazing ways to integrate their beliefs and values with their craft and managed to turn their passion into a career, which is an amazing feat in my book.

9) What makes you the happiest?
That's a super hard one, not gonna lie, because I am generally a pretty happy person. But I think that I've always found relationships with others to be particularly rewarding. I love knowing that people feel completely safe and free when they're with me, and therefore I can feel completely at home with them. This may sound weird, but I love being able to express my love for other people and knowing that I can do something that reminds them how valuable they are and brings out the best in them.

10) What is your summer playlist?
This will sound like a superrr weird compilation, but here are just a few songs that would definitely make it into the mix (but not necessarily in this order):
Daylight - Matt & Kim
Let Me In - Grouplove
Ready or Not - Bridgit Mendler
Next to Me - Emeli Sande
Sorry - Justin Bieber
Beggin for Thread - Banks
Schoolin Life - Beyonce
Hipster Girls - Iamsu!
How That Taste - Kehlani
Like I Can - Sam Smith
Portugal - Walk the Moon

11) What is your YouTube (achievements, best videos etc.)
I think my proudest YouTube moments have been when people comment saying that a video really helped them out, particularly about alleviating anxiety about social situations in my high school dance video (lol definitely my most watched video). I really care about people feeling free to enjoy all the little bits of life and not be afraid to just dive in. I was super relieved to get positive responses to more touchy videos in which I explain my faith or social views since that can be intimidating, but I'm working on not worrying so much about what other people think of me. Getting partnered was also awesome, and of course having subscribers (like you!) reach out to me personally is also super rewarding and reminds me of why I love doing what I do.

So they were her answers to my questions and I am super grateful for her contribution. Make sure to check out her YouTube channel and subscribe
